Terms of Carriage
The terms on which Venship accepts, carries and delivers shipments, including liability limits and claim deadlines.
Last updated January 15, 2026
1. What these terms cover
These terms apply to every shipment Venship accepts, whether booked on this website, through our API, or by an account manager. By handing us a shipment you accept them on your own behalf and on behalf of anyone else with an interest in the goods.
Where you hold a business account with a signed agreement, that agreement takes precedence over these terms wherever the two differ.
2. What we will not carry
We do not carry cash, bearer instruments, live animals, human remains, illegal goods, or items whose carriage is prohibited by the origin, transit or destination country.
Dangerous goods are accepted only where declared in advance, correctly packaged and labelled under the applicable regulations, and confirmed in writing by our team. Undeclared dangerous goods may be removed from the network and reported to the relevant authority.
3. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for describing the contents accurately, declaring their true value, packaging them adequately for the journey, and providing complete and correct addresses for both parties.
For international shipments you are responsible for the accuracy of customs information. We are not liable for delays, charges or seizure arising from a description or valuation that turns out to be wrong.
4. Delivery
We deliver to the address given, not necessarily to a named individual. Delivery to a person at the address, to a reception or mailroom, or to a location the recipient has nominated constitutes delivery.
Where a signature is required and nobody is available to give one, we will record an attempt and make the shipment available for redelivery or collection. Shipments uncollected after 10 working days are returned to the sender at the sender’s cost.
5. Transit times
Published transit times are business days on our network and are estimates unless the service is described as guaranteed.
Where a guaranteed service misses its committed delivery window for reasons within our control, the shipping charge for that shipment is refunded on request. This is the sole remedy for a missed window.
6. Liability
Our liability for loss or damage is limited to the lesser of the declared value of the goods and the limits set out in the applicable international convention, or where none applies, to a per-shipment limit stated in your rate card.
We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss of any kind, including loss of profit, loss of contract, or loss of market, whether or not we were aware such loss might arise.
We are not liable for delay or loss caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including weather, industrial action, civil unrest, and acts or omissions of customs and other authorities.
7. Claims
Claims for damage or partial loss must be raised within 14 days of delivery. Claims for total loss must be raised within 30 days of the date the shipment was handed to us.
We may require the packaging, the goods and photographic evidence to be retained and made available for inspection. Failure to do so may prevent a claim being assessed.
8. Charges
Charges are calculated on the greater of the actual and volumetric weight. We reserve the right to reweigh and remeasure any shipment and to adjust the charge accordingly, telling you why.
Duties, taxes and any charges levied by an authority are payable by the recipient unless your account is configured otherwise. Where we pay them on your behalf to release a shipment, we will invoice them to you together with an administration fee.
9. Data
We process the personal data you provide in order to carry out the carriage, including sharing it with customs authorities and delivery partners where required. Our privacy policy explains this in full.
